Here's a detailed interpretation of the Inkscape logo. With the new possibilities of the blur feature, I wanted to take a shot at some (loose) realism.
Go Inkscape!! Love that thing! *tries to squeeze Inkscape software and fails. 'Cos it's well _software_, duh!* Like the drawing, it's hard to do realistic stuff with vectors. For me it's hard to do even completely not-realistic stuff >.<;; the face on my avatar was made with Inkscape and a notebook pad (no mouse here T-T)
I know how you feel there. I discovered the announcement that our main man Bryce was giving a presentation about Inkscape at Portland State University just days after I had visited the campus. I was so bummed.
Sometimes you have to just take it in stride, and make super super advance plans to dominate next time ;D
The font is the previously "official" branding font for use with the Inkscape logo. Unfortunately, after posting this screen, I discovered it was nonfree. Back when I snarfed it, I recall it was a link to a site with the ttf listed on it -- however sometime since it seems that it was discovered that this was a commercial font, and the links were updated to their commercial ($25) offering.
You'd most certainly have had my vote, if I'd known about the competition sooner (I might even have entered myself).
The visible nodes tool on the side of the mountain is a great indication of what Inkscape is capable of – well done, and commiserations
Hey, there's always 0.46 to make splashes for

I really like it.

I've always liked the look of showing the underpinnings of the tools used in art programs... though perhaps you haven't seen the competition!
I look forward to your entry for 0.46
