This image began as an experiment to see what was possible using the new Blur feature of the upcoming version of Inkscape. Ever since I first read about the feature, I've wanted to give it a try on some Volumetric Lighting. This is my attempt to vectorize chilsta of flickr's "Jaq".
It's amazing how one single feature can so affect the possibilities and design process. Blur in Inkscape opens up a whole new slew of artistic techniques for experimentation, and infinitely expands the abilities one has to shade.
As I added element upon element of blurred light, Inkscape really started slowing down. I can say with pride that by the time I was done it this feature was definitely put through its paces.
Rendering the "high quality" final version of the vector took over a minute for 900x600px!
Only just discovered this image from the Inkscape site... Absolutely stunning work! I tried Inkscape many years ago and for whatever reason wasn't impressed by it. I went back to my somewhat dodgily obtained (!) copy of a major company who produces a programme like this... I have since re-examined Inkscape and I REALLY like what I see in the new developments. I am now going back to this FREE programme without a guilty conscience...
Keep up the good work. I am signed up to follow your work.
